Brig Gen Jahed Kamal blames illegal chemical warehouses for Mirpur fire deaths
Brig Gen Muhammad Jahed Kamal, director general of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, blamed unauthorized chemical warehouses and structural issues for the deadly fire in Mirpur on Tuesday. He stated that despite repeated warnings, such negligence continues to cause loss of life.
As of now, 16 bodies have been recovered, with efforts ongoing to stabilize the site due to lingering chemical fumes. Brig Gen Kamal urged the public to be more aware of fire risks, particularly around illegal chemical warehouses and unapproved buildings.
He also emphasized the need for cooperation, pointing out that safety measures, though sometimes inconvenient, are essential to prevent further deaths. Firefighters will remain on-site to monitor for any re-ignition of the fire.
