Qatar qualifies for 2026 World Cup with 2-1 win over UAE

Qatar qualified for the 2026 World Cup with a 2-1 win over the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, thanks to second-half headers from Boualem Khoukhi and Pedro Miguel.

This is Qatar’s first time advancing through qualification, after failing to win a match when hosting the 2022 tournament. The win put Qatar at the top of Group A, ahead of the UAE, which now moves to the playoffs. Oman was eliminated after finishing third.

Khoukhi scored early in the second half, and Miguel sealed the win with another header. Despite being reduced to 10 men, Qatar held on as the UAE scored late to make it 2-1.

Meanwhile, Japan and South Korea both won friendlies against South American teams. Japan beat Brazil 3-2, while South Korea won 2-0 against Paraguay.
