South Africa qualifies for 2026 World Cup despite points deduction

South Africa secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup after defeating Rwanda 3-0 on Tuesday, topping their qualifying group despite a three-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player.

This will be South Africa’s first World Cup appearance since hosting the tournament in 2010.

Nigeria, which finished second in the group, will now need to qualify through a playoff. They won 4-0 against Benin at home, with Victor Osimhen scoring a hat trick. Benin had been leading the group before the final round.
