Buchanan challenges Holness win in court
The Supreme Court set November 18 to hear Paul Buchanan’s application for judicial review of the decision that upheld Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ victory in West Central St. Andrew. The date followed a case management hearing on Tuesday, where the court ordered that documents be served on Holness and Attorney General Dr. Derrick McKoy, who represents the Constituted Authority.
Buchanan lost the September 3 election by 7,090 votes to 4,980 but claims he won due to alleged irregularities. The Constituted Authority rejected his challenge, stating his affidavits failed to meet the legal standard under section 37(e) of the Election Petition Act. The Electoral Commission supported that finding. Buchanan, represented by attorney Hugh Wildman, now seeks permission to pursue judicial review. The November hearing will decide if his challenge can move forward.
