Budget 2026 to build 38 new schools, focus on teacher recruitment

Budget 2026’s announcement of 38 new schools is aimed at meeting the growing demand for education in expanding housing areas and overcrowded regions. However, the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) is calling for a focus on teacher recruitment to avoid staffing shortages as the number of schools increases.

NUTP also praised the RM700 million set aside for 35 new blocks for special education students, but urged that new classrooms be accessible to people with disabilities. The union supports the government’s continued RM150 allowance for special needs students, which eases family financial burdens.

With RM115 million allocated for teacher training ahead of the 2027 curriculum, NUTP hopes the funds will help teachers adjust effectively. The union also wants the Supplementary Food Plan budget reviewed to match the rise in student numbers.
