RM21.7 billion allocated to modernise Malaysian Armed Forces

The RM21.7 billion earmarked for the Ministry of Defence in Budget 2026 will support the modernisation of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) to protect national sovereignty. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the allocation, a 2.92% increase from last year, ensures the MAF is prepared for both traditional and non-traditional security threats, including challenges in the South China Sea.

The budget includes RM800 million for building and maintaining housing for MAF personnel, an increase from last year’s RM600 million. It also covers the purchase of 18 FA-50 light combat aircraft from Korea, which will be stationed at Kuantan Air Base starting in 2027.

Additionally, RM500 million is allocated for Armed Forces Family Housing at Kuantan Air Base, benefiting nearly 800 military personnel. The total RM21.7 billion also includes RM6 billion for new defence assets, such as air defence systems and support ships.
