Bulgaria denies arms export breaches
Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev has firmly rejected suggestions that his country breaches international regulations governing defense exports, responding to concerns raised in Brussels after Sudan’s ambassador to the European Union warned that European-manufactured weapons are reaching the battlefield in the ongoing African civil war. Georgiev emphasized that Bulgaria maintains rigorous legislative frameworks governing military and dual-use goods, with oversight provided by a mixed commission dedicated to export control.
The foreign minister declined to address specific allegations regarding weapon flows to Sudan but stressed that all Bulgarian defense exports comply fully with both domestic law and international standards. When questioned about potential re-exports of Bulgarian armaments from the United Arab Emirates to Sudan, Georgiev stated that his ministry consistently adheres to documented procedures and established regulatory requirements.
