Bulgaria sets 120 leva for low pensions
Bulgaria’s Joint Management Council has approved 120 leva Christmas payments for approximately 536,000 pensioners whose monthly income falls below the poverty threshold of 638 leva. GERB parliamentarian Denitsa Sacheva announced that the decision followed discussions about the DOO budget capabilities to support the country’s most vulnerable retirees during the holiday season.
The supplement program will require 64 million leva in state funding. Sacheva emphasized that while officials remain committed to developing a permanent solution for pensioner support, such systemic changes require additional time to implement. She characterized the Christmas payments as a deserved benefit for Bulgaria’s poorest citizens.
