Chamisa rejects 2017 coup, calls for truth
Zimbabwe’s opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa, has firmly rejected any actions similar to the 2017 military coup that removed Robert Mugabe. Reflecting on his past support for the intervention, Chamisa stated that he learned a vital lesson, emphasizing that true change cannot come through unconstitutional means.
His comments came after a social media post promoting a “One Million Man March,” which Chamisa swiftly dismissed, referencing the 2017 events as a lesson. Chamisa also reiterated his stance on the 2023 election results, calling them fraudulent and asserting that addressing the root cause of the crisis—election legitimacy—is crucial. His response highlights his commitment to peaceful, democratic change rather than resorting to military-led actions.
