Charge sheet filed against Hasina in murder case
Police filed murder charges against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 113 others in connection with a protester’s death last summer. Authorities accused the defendants of orchestrating the fatal shooting of fish merchant Nabi Nur Morol at a demonstration in Savar on July 20, 2024. Sub-Inspector Foysal Alam stated that armed attackers fired on crowds after receiving direction from senior political figures.
Morol sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and died at Enam Medical Hospital the following day. His widow, Aklima Begum, initiated legal proceedings on Sept. 4, 2024, after the violence occurred at a rally near Wapda Road. The charge sheet names several prominent officials as conspirators who allegedly incited the armed assault.
Investigators spent over one year examining evidence before submitting their findings to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. The document lists allegations against Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and Dr. Enamur Rahman among the accused parties. Begum welcomed the formal charges and called for judicial accountability in the case.
