Chelsea’s Delap nears return from injury
Chelsea forward Liam Delap has resumed practice after a hamstring setback but remains unavailable for the Premier League match against Sunderland this weekend. Manager Enzo Maresca confirmed the 22-year-old joined team training on Thursday for the first time since sustaining the injury in August against Fulham. The striker may return for the League Cup fixture at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday. Delap arrived from Ipswich Town for 30 million pounds in June.
Marc Guiu could make his first league start after being recalled from a loan spell at Sunderland. The Spanish teenager improved his training efforts after Maresca expressed concerns about his performance several weeks ago. Chelsea seek a fifth consecutive victory across all competitions when they face Sunderland on Saturday. The visitors sit in seventh place with 14 points from eight matches.
