Chhattisgarh women turn Swachh Bharat into a profitable movement

The Swachh Bharat Mission has seen great success in Chhattisgarh, especially in Ramanujganj Municipality, where women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have played a big role. These women collect garbage door-to-door, a task that was once only done by men, and they’ve turned it into a way to earn money.

By separating dry and wet waste, they make organic compost and sell it to farmers. They also sell dry waste like plastic and paper as scrap. These women are spreading awareness about cleanliness and hygiene while improving their own financial situation.

They also make eco-friendly lamps from cow dung and clay, which they sell for extra income. Their efforts show how a government scheme can improve both cleanliness and the local economy.
