Chittagong University holds first student election in 35 years
Students at Chittagong University are reclaiming their rights through the CUCSU elections today, the first in 35 years. Following the “July Uprising” last year, students are hopeful that this election will bring a new era of freedom and representation.
The election is expected to be influenced by non-resident and female voters, who make up 70% and 40% of the student body. Voters must travel to the campus from the city, which may lower turnout. A total of 415 candidates are running for CUCSU posts, with 493 contesting hall union positions.
Security is tight, with a four-layer plan in place. The university hopes to conduct a free, fair election.
