At Chittagong University, trouble started on the night of October 15. Students from the BNP’s Chhatra Dal and Jamaat-e-Islami’s Islami Chhatra Shibir fought after results were announced for student elections. A police officer, Kazi Md Tareq Aziz, got hurt while trying to stop the violence and had to get stitches at a hospital.
The fight started when a candidate backed by Shibir won by just three votes at Suhrawardy Hall, making Chhatra Dal students angry. They threw stones at each other, and the police had to step in. The fighting spread, and extra police and guards were sent to keep the peace all night.
