CMP says Ershad Ullah was hit by stray bullet in attack

Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Hasib Aziz stated on Wednesday that attackers targeting a Chattogram-8 election rally did not aim at Bangladesh Nationalist Party nominee Ershad Ullah. Aziz told reporters at Evercare Hospital that Sarwar Hossain, a supporter facing multiple criminal charges, was the intended victim. A stray bullet wounded Ullah during the Bayezid Bostami campaign event. Hossain later died from his injuries alongside another injured associate named Shanto.

Aziz explained assailants fired additional shots to confirm Hossain’s death. Police have identified primary suspects and believe external actors encouraged the violence. The incident occurred as Ullah and his team campaigned ahead of February’s national polls. Authorities continue investigating the gunfire that hospitalized three individuals during the political gathering in the port city.
