Govt condemns attack on Ershad Ullah’s campaign, vows justice

Bangladesh’s interim government condemned gunfire targeting a Chattogram-8 constituency election rally on Wednesday evening that wounded three people, including Bangladesh Nationalist Party nominee Ershad Ullah. Sarwar Hossain, facing multiple criminal charges, died later at Evercare Hospital from his injuries. Authorities stated preliminary police findings indicated Ullah was not the intended target and sustained injury from a stray bullet.

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus ordered security forces to identify and arrest the shooters immediately. A full investigation has commenced alongside an active search for suspects. The administration reaffirmed its commitment to candidate safety and peaceful elections, urging all political groups to maintain restraint. Officials emphasized violence has no place in the nation’s democratic processes and pledged necessary security measures for the February polls. Ullah and his associates were campaigning in Bayezid Bostami when attackers opened fire. The government expressed concern over the criminal act and extended wishes for Ullah’s recovery.
