Court slams media over fake bail reports

Bangladesh’s Supreme Court denied that Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed demanded explanations from three High Court judges about their bail decisions. The court said on Tuesday that the chief justice requested routine case information as part of standard administrative procedures.

Media reports on Monday stated Ahmed summoned Justices Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman, Mostofa Zaman Islam and Zakir Hossain to explain their high bail approval rates. The accounts claimed Special Officer Md Moazzem Hossain contacted the judges through WhatsApp and telephone.

Supreme Court officials confirmed no formal summons or show-cause notices were sent to any judges. The queries remained confidential administrative matters unrelated to disciplinary action.

Public Relations Officer Md Shafiqul Islam urged news organizations to verify information before publishing court coverage. The statement warned that inaccurate reporting damages judicial credibility and confuses citizens about legal proceedings.
