Delhi celebrates green crackers with Supreme Court’s blessing for Diwali
The Delhi government welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to allow the sale and use of green firecrackers in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) from October 18 to 21. Several ministers praised the decision and criticized the previous government for misleading the court about the impact of firecrackers on air quality.
BJP Delhi President Virendra Sachdeva supported the ruling, stating that pollution is caused by multiple factors, not just firecrackers. Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra thanked the Chief Minister for representing the people’s sentiments. The Supreme Court also directed that only certified green crackers with QR codes be sold, and their use will be restricted to 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. E-commerce platforms are banned from selling firecrackers.
