Mnangagwa and Chiwenga clash over corruption claims ahead of Zanu PF conference

President Mnangagwa and Vice President Chiwenga are in conflict after Chiwenga accused Mnangagwa of corruption and betrayal in a 17-page document. Chiwenga claimed that Mnangagwa’s government had failed the ideals of the 2017 coup and allowed corruption to thrive. Mnangagwa’s team rejected these accusations, calling them treasonous and false.

Chiwenga also criticized Mnangagwa’s plans for a prolonged presidency, accusing him of planning to extend his rule until 2030. Mnangagwa’s supporters dismissed these claims and defended the constitutional legitimacy of the government. The confrontation between the two leaders has deepened divisions within Zanu PF, with both sides gaining support from different factions in the party.
