Dhaka ranks fourth globally for worst air quality
Dhaka ranked fourth today for the worst air quality, with an AQI of 167 at 9:30 am. The air was marked as ‘unhealthy,’ a serious health concern, and the AQI has stayed above 160 for several days.
The AQI measures air quality based on pollutants like particulate matter, NO2, CO, SO2, and ozone. Air quality is considered moderate between 50 and 100, unhealthy for sensitive groups between 101 and 150, and unhealthy above 150. Lahore, Delhi, and Kolkata had higher AQI scores than Dhaka, with Lahore at 260, Delhi at 222, and Kolkata at 174.
Dhaka’s air usually worsens in winter and improves during the monsoon. Air pollution causes an estimated seven million deaths worldwide each year.
