DoT to launch Innovation Sandbox for AI, Digital Twin solutions

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is launching an Innovation and Regulatory Sandbox under its Sangam Initiative to promote telecom-powered Digital Twins and AI-driven solutions for smarter infrastructure planning. This initiative will bring together industry, academia, and policymakers to co-develop advanced digital solutions to improve the planning, management, and monitoring of large-scale projects in India.

Announced during the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, the DoT showcased its Digital Twin with AI-Driven Insights initiative. The demonstration highlighted how telecom networks, computing, and sensing technologies can transform sectors like mobility, tourism, and green infrastructure.

The upcoming sandbox will serve as a collaborative platform to develop AI models and digital twin tools, ensuring secure, privacy-preserving systems. The DoT has partnered with MoHUA, IISc, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Madras, along with transport bodies, to advance this research and implementation.
