Earthquake shakes Dhaka, cricketers take cover
A significant earthquake briefly interrupted a cricket Test match between Bangladesh and Ireland in Mirpur. The tremor occurred during play, causing participants and spectators to evacuate the field for approximately three minutes as the ground shook.
Bangladeshi player Taijul Islam reported initially failing to understand the event before hearing noises and feeling physical movement, which caused some alarm. Ireland’s head coach, Heinrich Malan, who has prior experience with earthquakes, described the unsettling feeling and the momentary uncertainty about the situation’s wider impact.
After the shaking subsided, the match resumed. The earthquake was initially measured at a magnitude of 5.7, with its epicenter reported near Ghorashal.
