Factional clash erupts at NCP meeting in Dhaka

Two factions within the National Citizen Party fought at Shahbagh on Friday evening after a money dispute escalated into violence. The confrontation occurred at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Convention Hall around 6:15 p.m., while members were gathering for a coordination meeting. Witnesses said an argument between representatives of the Mohammadpur and Bangshal units turned physical on the building’s second floor. One party member from Bangshal sustained injuries and required medical attention.

Sourav from the Bangshal branch said a colleague had lent 200,000 taka to a Mohammadpur leader two months earlier but never received repayment. The borrower refused to return the funds when confronted at the meeting. Both groups attacked each other after the refusal sparked heated exchanges between members. Party officials had received prior notification about the financial disagreement.
