FARC dissidents warn US against violating Colombian sovereignty

FARC dissidents threatened to resist American military action after President Donald Trump suggested ground operations against drug traffickers in Colombia. The Central General Staff warned against interventions that would breach the nation’s sovereignty and said members have long opposed Washington.

The United States has conducted at least 10 air strikes against vessels in Caribbean and Pacific waters, with officials claiming 43 casualties were connected to narcotics smuggling. The EMC faction controls cocaine production zones near the Venezuelan border under leader Ivan Mordisco, whom authorities compare to Pablo Escobar.

Trump has labeled Colombian President Gustavo Petro a trafficking leader and imposed financial penalties while demanding the closure of coca farms. Petro said on Thursday that ground forces would constitute an invasion.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro accused the White House of creating perpetual conflict through maritime attacks.
