Folk singer Maithili Thakur joins BJP, likely to contest in Alinagar

Folk singer Maithili Thakur joined the BJP on Tuesday evening, with BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal welcoming her into the party. Thakur, known for promoting Maithili folk culture and traditional music, is expected to contest from the Alinagar Assembly seat, with her name possibly appearing in the BJP’s upcoming candidate list.

The BJP released its first list of 71 candidates for the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, featuring senior leaders, sitting MLAs, and newcomers. The list includes both Deputy Chief Ministers, 12 ministers, 48 sitting MLAs, 9 women, and 12 new faces. Over 50% of the candidates represent Dalits, backward, extremely backward, and women, with significant representation from both upper castes and OBCs. The list also dropped several high-profile leaders, signaling the party’s mix of experienced and youthful candidates.
