Gavi team reviews jabs push in Myanmar

Myanmar’s health minister met with officials from the vaccine alliance on Tuesday to review immunization programs across the country. Dr Thet Khaing Win told representatives from GAVI, WHO and UNICEF that authorities delivered routine shots to children in townships recently freed from rebel control.

Medical teams provided vaccinations in Kyaukme, Hsipaw and Nawnghkio while expanding catch-up campaigns for residents under 15 years old. Officials reported no disease outbreaks in earthquake-affected regions near Mandalay.

The government prioritizes pregnant women and children in national immunization efforts, with support from international partners. Ministry staff discussed funding applications for continued vaccine programs with the Geneva-based alliance.

Deputy ministers and public health directors attended the Nay Pyi Taw session with United Nations agency representatives.
