Myanmar inks visa deal with Russia
Myanmar’s foreign minister signed visa-exemption and consultation agreements with Russia following meetings in Belarus this week. U Than Swe discussed election observers and bilateral cooperation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday, Oct. 28.
Russian officials will monitor Myanmar’s general election, which begins on Sunday, Dec. 28. The countries plan regular foreign ministry consultations through 2027 under the new framework.
U Than Swe met Belarus Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov on Tuesday to advance partnerships in the economic and cultural sectors. The ministers reviewed pending bilateral accords between both governments.
The Myanmar diplomat visited his nation’s consulate and urged staff to master local languages and artificial intelligence tools. He told officers to strengthen diplomatic ties and convert adversaries into partners.
