Myanmar, Korea eye fresh investment push
Myanmar’s investment minister asked South Korean companies to expand operations beyond garment manufacturing as both nations explore broader economic partnerships. Dr Wah Wah Maung met on Tuesday with Choi Shin-il from the Myanmar-Korea Institute of Economic and Security Studies at the ministry headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw.
South Korea provides development assistance for agriculture, health care, education and infrastructure projects across Myanmar. Officials cited the Saemaul Undong rural development program as a model for local adaptation.
Korea ranks sixth among foreign investors and ninth in trade volume with Myanmar. Choi told officials that Korean businesses seek opportunities in construction, telecommunications and manufacturing sectors.
Ministry directors briefed the delegation on investment incentives and legal frameworks available under national regulations. Representatives from construction, medical equipment and cement firms joined the talks.
