Trump lands in Korea chasing trade win
President Donald Trump met with South Korean leader Lee Jae Myung on Wednesday in Gyeongju as North Korea launched cruise missiles into western waters. The American leader dismissed the weapons test as routine but said he remains willing to negotiate with Kim Jong Un.
Trump sought $350 billion in American investment commitments from South Korean firms after securing $490 billion in pledges from Japan earlier this week. Seoul awarded him the Grand Order of Mugunghwa for diplomatic work on the peninsula.
The president addressed business leaders at an APEC forum, where Lee warned against trade barriers. Trump praised bilateral cooperation in shipbuilding and hinted at reducing tariffs on China before meeting President Xi Jinping on Thursday.
