Trump misses chance for Kim reunion
President Donald Trump said he could not schedule a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un while visiting South Korea on Wednesday. The American leader told reporters that timing prevented the encounter, but he hopes to meet Kim soon.
Trump spoke in Seoul before traveling to Gyeongju for talks with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung at the APEC summit. North Korea fired cruise missiles into western waters hours before his arrival.
The two leaders previously met three times between 2018 and 2019, with their last encounter at the Korean border zone. Those negotiations collapsed over nuclear disarmament terms and sanctions relief.
Lee praised Trump for trying to arrange dialogue despite tensions. North Korea has rejected denuclearization calls while expanding its weapons programs since diplomatic efforts stalled.
