Govt approves massive fertiliser, sugar imports to meet rising demand
On Tuesday, a government committee approved plans to buy about 1.30 lakh metric tonnes of fertiliser and 15,000 metric tonnes of sugar to meet rising demand. The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) made the decision in a virtual meeting led by Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed. The Ministry of Commerce’s proposal for buying 15,000 metric tonnes of sugar from the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) was approved at a cost of Tk173.37 crore, with each kilogram priced at Tk115.58. The Ministry of Agriculture’s proposals were also greenlit, including the purchase of fertiliser from Canadian and Moroccan suppliers.
