GRS, PH cooperation key for MA63 rights, says Armizan

The collaboration between Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the upcoming 17th Sabah state election is key to strengthening ties between the state and federal governments, says GRS deputy secretary-general Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. He believes this partnership will allow for continued discussions and negotiations on issues like Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), the state’s demand for 40% of federal revenue, and the Special Grant rate.

Armizan stressed that both parties must work together, as these issues fall under federal jurisdiction and require consensus. He praised Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his openness and commitment to fulfilling MA63 demands, including raising the Special Grant rate for Sabah to RM600 million, a significant increase from the previous RM53.4 million under the Warisan government.

The GRS manifesto for the state elections will focus on MA63 issues, with Armizan aiming to clear up any misinformation from opposition parties like Warisan, who failed to act on these demands while in power. Prime Minister Anwar’s Budget 2026 also promised a rise in the Special Grant rate to RM600 million for Sabah and Sarawak, reflecting the government’s commitment to upholding the spirit of MA63.
