Gutsanov pushes social policies to tackle Bulgaria’s demographic crisis

Minister of Labor and Social Policy Borislav Gutsanov discussed social payments, stressing that the issue is about the country’s future, not money. He highlighted the need for Bulgaria to focus on becoming a developed country, rather than relying on low wages to attract investors.

The ministry aims to support young families by increasing maternal benefits to 1,100 leva and boosting compensation to 75% for working mothers. Gutsanov also mentioned proposals to raise birth benefits and expand student assistance for all children in grades 1 to 8.

To address the demographic crisis, the ministry is working on the “I Choose Bulgaria” project to encourage Bulgarians abroad to return, with nearly 3,000 applications submitted.

Additionally, Gutsanov announced plans to tighten social system controls, including steps to support flood victims with financial aid for repairs.
