Hamas, Fatah meet in Cairo for Gaza talks

Hamas and Fatah representatives convened in Cairo on Thursday to address implementation details of a United States ceasefire proposal for Gaza. Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad facilitated separate discussions with Islamic Jihad and Palestinian Liberation Organization members. An anonymous official confirmed both parties were committed to further negotiations and Palestinian front coordination against Israeli government actions.

The groups have maintained antagonistic relations since their 2006 electoral confrontation, which led to armed conflict. Egypt continues its mediator role as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio traveled to Israel on Thursday to strengthen the agreement. President Donald Trump’s 20-point framework envisions Arab and Muslim forces securing Gaza as Israeli forces depart.

A transitional governing body would assume administrative control from Hamas under the arrangement. Al-Qahera News reported that the sessions examined post-conflict arrangements and broader Palestinian political conditions. The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine participated in separate talks with Egyptian authorities.
