Hefazat-e-Islam rejects politics, supports religious reforms

Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, a religiously focused, apolitical group, has stated that engaging in political activities or forming alliances with political parties goes against its core principles. Mamunul Haque, the group’s joint secretary general, emphasized this during a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity.

Haque clarified that Hefazat is not involved in politics and has no connections with any political party. He also addressed comments made by Hefazat Ameer Allama Shah Muhibullah Babunagari, who discouraged voting for Jamaat-e-Islami, stating that it was Babunagari’s personal opinion.

Hefazat-e-Islam also used the event to demand the appointment of religious teachers in schools, the cancellation of art and culture teacher appointments, and the enactment of laws with severe penalties for undermining Islam. The group opposes attacks on temples and taking the law into one’s own hands.
