MIDA announces reforms to boost Bangladesh’s Blue Economy

The Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority (MIDA) has announced several key measures to boost investment in Bangladesh’s Blue Economy, focusing on deep-sea fishing, seafood processing, and mariculture.

At a meeting in Dhaka, senior officials from multiple ministries discussed decisions aimed at removing barriers and accelerating growth. Key resolutions include fast-tracking approval for fishing vessels, simplifying jetty development in Cox’s Bazar, and offering bond licenses to seafood processors.

MIDA also approved permits for processing and exporting bycatch, and plans to allocate coastal land for mariculture projects. Special incentives, like reduced electricity tariffs, will support seafood exporters. The government is also mandating the registration of all fishing boats to combat illegal activities.

MIDA’s efforts aim to establish Maheshkhali as a hub for ocean-based industries, with deep-sea fishing now a key priority.
