Illegal goods worth K1.68 billion seized in Myanmar
Myanmar’s Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee reported that enforcement operations from November 1 through November 7 resulted in seizures totaling approximately 1.68 billion kyats and 43 arrests. Combined law enforcement teams confiscated consumer goods, electronics, industrial materials, foodstuffs, and timber lacking proper documentation across multiple townships, including Sagaing, Patheingyi, Pyawbwe, Amarapura, Pyigyidagun, and Kyaukse.
Authorities acting under the Forest Law and Export/Import Law impounded illegally harvested teaks, hardwoods, and other timber in Kawhmu, Insein, and Myanaung townships during the first week of November. Officers also seized unregistered vehicles and motorbikes in several Yangon townships.
Major confiscations included a Kinglong bus valued at roughly 40 million kyats discovered in Phayagyi and a vessel estimated at 530 million kyats docked at Mottama Port in Hlainethaya. The ship, traveling from Kawthoung to Yangon, carried industrial materials without proper customs documentation. Combined checkpoint operations at Yadanabon Bridge and other locations netted additional contraband throughout the reporting period.
