Than Than Nu urges Myanmar voters to support democracy
Democratic Party chairperson Daw Than Than Nu presented her organization’s platform during a broadcast address on the evening of Sunday, November 9, advocating for universal democratic participation in Myanmar’s December 28 multiparty elections while emphasizing national reconciliation as fundamental to development. The party pledges free secondary education access through legislation, expanded international academic exchanges, and healthcare system modernization, combining Western and traditional medical practices with universal treatment availability.
Social welfare initiatives would provide housing assistance for low-income populations, special protections for children and elderly citizens, and comprehensive support for disabled and chronically ill residents. Agricultural reforms would grant farmers land transfer rights and marketing freedom alongside association formation privileges under democratic principles.
The chairperson highlighted the Tatmadaw’s historical significance while calling for the maintenance of military traditions established by General Aung San, paired with foreign policy adherence to United Nations principles and peaceful coexistence standards promoting sovereignty protection.
