India elected co-chair of UN-GGIM Asia-Pacific committee

India has been elected Co-Chair of the UN-GGIM Regional Committee for Asia and the Pacific, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced. The election took place during the 14th Plenary Meeting in Goyang-si, South Korea, in September.

India’s new role highlights its growing leadership in geospatial information and its contributions to innovation, capacity building, and regional cooperation. The country will hold the Co-Chair position for the next three years, aligning with the UN-GGIM Strategic Framework.

Hitesh Kumar S. Makwana, Surveyor General of India, expressed his gratitude for the trust and support from member states. He committed to promoting data-driven decision-making and strengthening partnerships across the Asia-Pacific region.
