India-South Korea boost semiconductor and energy ties
India-South Korea relations have evolved into a strategically important partnership, focusing on technological collaboration in semiconductors and sustainable energy. This shift from traditional trade ties to deeper technological cooperation is essential for navigating global geopolitical challenges and supply chain changes. South Korea’s New Southern Policy has been key in strengthening this partnership, especially in the Indo-Pacific region.
The semiconductor partnership aligns with India’s goal of becoming a global semiconductor hub by 2030. South Korea, home to major semiconductor companies like Samsung and SK Hynix, offers expertise, investment, and technology to help India build its semiconductor ecosystem. Collaborative R&D in advanced technologies like AI chips and 3D packaging will reduce reliance on China-centric supply chains.
In energy, both countries are collaborating on renewable energy and clean technologies, including solar, wind, energy storage, and green hydrogen. South Korea’s expertise will help India meet its renewable energy targets and advance its National Green Hydrogen Mission. Future cooperation will focus on battery storage solutions, helping stabilize power grids and support India’s transition to sustainable energy.
