India stands firm on oil deals despite US pressure

India has made it clear that its oil and gas import policy focuses on the needs of its people. This statement came after US President Donald Trump said Prime Minister Modi promised to reduce purchases of Russian oil.

India prioritizes securing stable energy prices and supplies. Its energy policy aims to protect consumers, diversify energy sources, and adjust to market changes. India has also been working to increase energy cooperation with the US.

Energy purchases from the US have dropped in recent years, but India sees room to buy more. India has already diversified its oil sources, reducing concerns about US pressure on Russian oil.

India’s oil trade with Russia has helped keep global prices stable. Before the Ukraine war, India bought little oil from Russia, but now it makes up 40 percent of imports.
