India’s smartphone exports hit $1.8 billion in September, up 95% year-on-year

India’s smartphone exports surpassed $1.8 billion in September, marking a year-on-year growth of over 95%, according to a report from the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA). Despite September traditionally being a low-export month due to production adjustments, the strong export performance highlights the country’s growing presence in global value chains.

For the period of April-September 2025, mobile phone exports are estimated at $13.5 billion, up from $8.5 billion in the same period last year, reflecting a growth of over 60%. The report credits India’s mobile phone manufacturing sector for its increasing scale, efficiency, and global competitiveness.

The US remains the largest market, accounting for nearly 70% of total exports, a significant jump from 37% last year. Exports to the US alone surged nearly 200% from $3.1 billion to an estimated $9.4 billion. The ICEA forecasts mobile phone exports will reach $35 billion in FY 2025-26.
