Interim government’s advisory council to wrap up in November
Bangladesh’s interim government will end advisory council meetings in November as its mandate comes to an end, Information Adviser Md Mahfuj Alam announced on Sunday. He told reporters at the Dhaka Reporters Unity that there is limited time left before the Election Commission assumes control and cabinet sessions stop.
The Media Reform Commission submitted 23 urgent proposals, with 13 currently moving forward after ministry review. Alam said officials will struggle to complete work requiring cabinet approval or the passage of new ordinances beyond November.
The information ministry compiled a list of fraudulent newspapers that published no editions in the past year. Alam said the government will act against these outlets if journalists back the initiative.
Advertisement rates will double for newspapers that prove genuine circulation numbers and pay staff according to wage board standards. Publications that fail to meet the minimum salary requirements will lose access to higher rates.
