Israel to reopen Gaza border for aid amid hostage swap

Israel was expected to reopen Gaza’s sole border crossing on Wednesday to allow humanitarian aid as part of a US-backed ceasefire deal. The reopening follows a swap deal, where Hamas returned 20 surviving hostages in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. Eight bodies have been returned so far, with 20 more still in Gaza, adding pressure on Prime Minister Netanyahu to link aid to the return of the bodies.

Humanitarian aid, including 600 trucks, was set to be sent to Gaza on Wednesday. The war caused a humanitarian crisis, and aid had been restricted. Hamas is continuing its crackdown in Gaza, executing suspected collaborators and asserting control over the territory.
