Jamaat leader urges fair voting for a corruption-free future
Jamaat-e-Islami leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman called on citizens to exercise their voting rights responsibly during Bangladesh’s February national elections, stating the country’s future hinges on sound electoral choices. Speaking at a Sylhet party gathering on Wednesday, he emphasized selecting candidates based on integrity, competence, and moral character rather than partisan loyalty. Rahman did not advocate for any specific political organization, including his own.
He urged all citizens, regardless of political views, to ensure polling occurs in a secure, impartial atmosphere. Rahman described the elections as historically significant and pledged his party would establish equitable governance without favoritism if elected. The event at Mayurkunja Convention Hall in Sylhet-1 constituency included speeches by senior Jamaat officials Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer and Fakhrul Islam. Rahman stressed that elected representatives must reject nepotism and corruption to serve public interests effectively.
