JnU forms panel for first student polls

Jagannath University established a five-member commission to conduct the institution’s first student union election since opening in 2005. The syndicate approved the formation under Section 15(1) of the university’s Central Students’ Union policy from 2025.

Professor Mostafa Hasan from the Social Work Department will serve as the chief election commissioner. Four assistant commissioners join him: Professor Shahidul Islam from Law, Professor Kaniz Fatema Kakolee from Physics, Professor Zulfiker Mahmud from Computer Science and Engineering, and Associate Professor Anisur Rahman from Islamic History and Culture.

Acting Registrar Professor Gias Uddin signed the order on Tuesday. The election represents a significant development for students at the Dhaka-based university after two decades without organized representation.
