Judd Apatow recalls Adam Sandler days
Director Judd Apatow recalls the moment his former roommate, Adam Sandler, departed their shared residence after securing a position on Saturday Night Live. Apatow shares this memory in his upcoming memoir, Comedy Nerd, which arrives on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. The 57-year-old filmmaker states he and Sandler spent their days writing jokes and performing at comedy clubs with few other responsibilities.
Apatow knew his roommate would succeed before the audition. He describes Sandler as exceptionally funny with natural charisma. The future SNL star informed Apatow about his audition plans and confirmed his hiring the following day before moving out. Sandler joined Saturday Night Live as a writer in 1990 and performed as a cast member from 1991 through 1995.
The new memoir contains previously unseen photographs, correspondence, and scripts from Apatow’s career. The book documents his professional journey and relationships with comedy figures like Steve Carell. Sandler appears among the many performers featured in the volume.
