Kayin Don dancers dazzle at 70th state day contest
A Kayin traditional Don dance competition was held in Hpa-an, Kayin State, on Thursday to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Kayin State Day. Chief Minister U Saw Myint Oo and senior state officials launched the event, offering a brief history of the Don dance before observing a performance by the Hlaing Kaba Village Don Dance Troupe, which represented Donyin Station. The chief minister recognized the troupe with an award following their performance.
On the opening night, 10 groups participated in the first round of the commemorative competition, with each receiving awards from the chief minister. A total of 20 Don dance troupes are set to compete over several rounds, with the top 10 advancing for final awards that cover categories such as best song, prayer song, Don dance, and all-around excellence. In the afternoon, the chief minister and officials also visited preparations for the anniversary celebration, inspecting displays of ethnic literature, cultural exhibits, and local MSME product booths, while guiding the event.
