Lawmakers accuse Nyota programme of favouritism, demand Ruto’s intervention
Lawmakers are raising alarms over favoritism in the distribution of funds under the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (Nyota) program. During a heated debate, MPs accused the government of excluding elected leaders from the process, making it unclear who is benefiting from the project in their constituencies.
Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba and Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo voiced concerns that many youth from outside their areas were being favored, leaving locals out of the equation. MPs are demanding a say in the selection process to ensure fairness and transparency.
With President Ruto’s confirmation that the program is finally moving forward, the Sh5 billion initiative aims to empower youth through grants, mentorship, and job training. But lawmakers warn it could fail if consultations remain limited.
