Taliban attacks Pakistani troops on northern border, killing 58 soldiers

The Taliban has confirmed launching attacks on Pakistani troops along the northern border, claiming 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed in retaliation for airspace violations and an alleged bombing of a market in Afghanistan. Pakistan disputes the Taliban’s death toll, reporting only 23 soldiers killed and claiming to have neutralized 200 Taliban fighters.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister condemned the attacks as “unprovoked,” accusing the Taliban of targeting civilians, and vowed retaliation. Meanwhile, Afghanistan insists it was defending its borders and denies harboring terrorists, despite accusations from Pakistan about cross-border terrorist operations. The violence has led to the closure of key border crossings, stranding hundreds of trucks.

Diplomatic tensions have risen, with Pakistan’s military pledging to protect its citizens, while Saudi Arabia and Qatar call for restraint and dialogue between the two countries.
